I Just finished the book.  As a fantasy genre fan, it was a great story, well woven together with historical figures.  I really enjoyed the battle scenes that could only have been written by a warrior's heart.

It was also refreshing to see a novel with names I recognized instead of Irish or Old English names.  The rules of "magic" had a very "Dia de los Muertos" feel.  This also made the book feel very native to me.  Loved the rock quotes at the start of every chapter.

I can't wait for the next book!

Sangre del Unico is the first book in The Solomon Chronicles series of historical fiction novels.  It is rich in historical details with a fascinating mosaic of characters driven by their strong beliefs with the eternal conflict of good versus evil.  The conflict cannot be resolved without violence in the form of a cataclysmic final solution such as the extermination of nations and the executions of humans in the name of ultimately saving the world.

Hernan de Pedraza, one of the minor characters in the novel, is a real life descendant  of the author which adds an interesting twist because this novel was born out of the passion of researching the  authors ancestral past.  It offers a very personal story of love, sacrifice and endurance with a broad view of this pivotal time in ancient history.  The story is solid and the key characters are well developed.  It is a powerfully gripping read for history buffs and will keep you riveted as you turn the pages toward its surprise ending.

I look forward to his next book.
